Time to demystify the college process by providing students with one-on-one planning sessions, resources, and personalized timelines. This service is more than just the mechanics of getting accepted into college; using this approach, I will walk your son or daughter through the logistics of the college process and serve as a guide to help them understand who they are and how to maximize their strengths to design their future.
You are the Architect of your Life;
Design it with intention and great care.
Many times, a student will struggle, sometimes, not because they have learning difficulties, but because of a mindset that gets in the way of success or life circumstances that are complicated. These students can be caught in the middle, they do enough to get by, but have not found the right avenue for success. I found a pattern of success with the reluctant learners using an approach to support them in unlocking their potential and in empowering them to begin design a more successful life.
Sometimes you have to walk through pain and confusion to have a better understanding of life. Greek philosopher. Heraclitus
Coming Summer of 2024
These workshops are designed for high functioning students who want to emerge as a leader and stand out in their school community. The attendees will be taught to design a life that challenges them to seek their personal best in each moment and every situation. Everyday greatness is within reach for those who want to make a difference!!
Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives--choice, not chance, determines one's destiny! Aristotle
After an initial meeting, we will research and gather information to understand the student's overall profile and academic record to determine their current reality in order to begin the search of finding the right college match. We will work as a team to create a timeline for the whole process including key college board information. We will identify colleges that are a good fit and provide information about the college's academic program, campus culture and admission requirements.
The goal for Navigating the College Process is for the student to become more self-aware, as they explore and pursue the full range of possibilities in their future. This is a rare and unique time in the life of a student. I will guide them as they identify and assess the results of the personality assessment, to set priorities and to make the major decisions. Through this process, the students will develop and refine their organization, communication, and critical thinking skills. I will assist them in preparing an authentic application that places a spotlight on their academic and student profile. I will be realistic, respectful, and responsive to the needs of the family throughout this process. If we move forward, our working time will be primarily online and in person when needed. I will work around the student's schedule. Doing many of the sessions through Zoom will certainly help our ability to manage busy schedules.
Timing matters: while we can step in and help a family at any point with this planning, the best time to start is in the student's 11th grade year or before; that timeline ensures a diligent and thoughtful approach. I am able to offer a 4-year plan that begins the 9th grade. To be sure, it is best to begin this work in the fall of the Junior Year to maximize the timeframe; however, I am happy to work with Seniors on an compressed program.

I will begin with assessment and fact-finding to determine if a psychologist or mental health counselor is required. If that is the decision, Dunson Designs has partnerships to secure that type of professional help: they will become part of the team to help the student redesign their academic life and more. This program is extremely beneficial for a student who has been identified with ADHD or ADD; understanding the way one’s mind works is critical to personal growth. Teaching a student to understand how they can turn what many see as a negative trait into one of their strongest attributes.
Dunson Designs for Education is available to help families and students see that there is a way out of whatever quagmire they may be navigating. This program is for K through 12. If there is a need, I will design a program that specifically addresses the unique needs of your son or daughter.
If professional assistance is needed, Dr. Richard Marshall, Licensed School Psychologist or Meghan Balliet, Licensed Clinical Social Worker will be consulted.
Cost will be determined by the scope of the need.

Competitive Workshops will help students to understand themselves and to realize that desire alone will not catapult a person to greatness. But rather with a keen sense of self, a solid knowledge base, and a strong and resilient character it will make a difference. Rarely do students have access to professional development of this nature at this young age. This 20 hour workshop will position the students to be fully engaged and lead.
During this workshop, the students will be taught by some of the top teachers and coaches in this region. There will be panel discussions with high achieving people.
The curriculum will draw from:
How to build a healthy culture on a team or campus
Importance of the mindset & sustaining individual success
Setting Priorities & Making decision & Goal Setting
Learn about great leaders and managers
How to make a difference
Learn to manage others as a peer
Leading for collaboration, cohesion & common agreements
Problem-solving with Design Thinking & How to untangle issues that affect the team
